Statement of professional philosophy

My professional philosophy as a librarian is based on the belief that access to information is a fundamental right and a cornerstone of an equitable society that reflects its community. Libraries are not only repositories of knowledge but they are community spaces where information becomes empowerment. Through my studies in the Master of Library and Information Science program and my background in Quality Assurance and Sociology degree, I have come to see librarianship as both a human-centered and data-informed profession.

I believe that libraries must serve as bridges connecting communities to reliable information, to each other, and to opportunities for lifelong learning. Whether in a school, public, or digital environment, my approach emphasizes accessibility, transparency, and inclusivity. I am particularly committed to addressing epistemic injustices in how community histories are preserved and represented. My work on digital history projects and local archives has deepened my conviction that every community deserves to see its stories reflected in the historical record.

As a professional, I bring a systems-thinking perspective shaped by two decades of working in technology. In library contexts, this means advocating for processes that are clear, consistent, and user-friendly, whether through metadata design, reference services, or digital resource management. I value collaboration, iteration, and user feedback as essential tools for improving services. Ethically, I am guided by the ALA Code of Ethics and the principle that intellectual freedom must coexist with cultural sensitivity. My goal is to create library environments (physical and digital) that respect diverse perspectives, protect privacy, and empower users to think critically.

Looking ahead, I see my role as a librarian and archivist being one of continual learning and stewardship. Libraries evolve with their communities, and so must the professionals who serve them. My philosophy centers on curiosity, compassion, and the belief that well-organized, openly shared information can strengthen both individuals and communities.
